John S. McCain Memorial in Hanoi at Trúc Bạch Lake, Vietnam
Since 2012, The Starr Foundation has donated more than $15 million to support the McCain Institute’s mission of defending democracy, advancing human rights and freedom, and empowering character-driven leaders.
Inspired by Senator John McCain’s legacy of serving causes greater than oneself, the McCain Institute’s McCain Global Leaders Program empowers leaders from around the world to be champions of democracy and positive change in their home countries by providing them with training workshops, resources, and access to regional and global networks. The program attracts more than 2,000 applications for its two dozen places each year.
Alumni from the McCain Global Leaders Program include participants from the Office of the President of Lithuania; Oxfam; the District Council of Lviv, Ukraine; Meta; CNN International; the Hong Kong Democracy Council; the Mayor’s Office on Corruption Prevention in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan; the Polish Armed Forces; and Nigeria’s African Democratic Congress, among many others.
