Schwarzman Scholars at Tsinghua University

In 2018, The Starr Foundation became a Cornerstone Partner of the Schwarzman Scholars Program, committing $25 million to help equip the next generation of global leaders with an understanding of China’s role in the 21st-century geopolitical landscape.
Established in 2015, Schwarzman Scholars brings together 150 to 200 exceptional students from China, the United States, and more than 40 other countries. Scholars who are selected for this prestigious program receive the opportunity to earn a fully funded master of global affairs degree at Schwarzman College, Tsinghua University, in Beijing. These students engage in rigorous and immersive academic programming to study the economic, political, and cultural factors that have contributed to China’s growth as a global superpower. The Starr Foundation’s grant helps make this extraordinary educational opportunity free of cost to all participants.
In addition to coursework in global affairs, hands-on leadership training, and mentorship, Schwarzman Scholars also travel beyond Beijing to learn firsthand about the economic, social, and political development across the country. The collective experience empowers individuals to develop a deeper and more nuanced understanding of China’s complex history and future. Graduating scholars who disperse to cities around the globe have gone on to distinguished careers in local and international government, consulting, finance, business, technology, and international organizations, among many other sectors around the world.
