In 2022, in recognition of Mr. M.R. Greenberg’s commitment and contributions to the field of insurance, the Department of Risk Management and Insurance within the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University (GSU) became the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Science (GSRS).
GSRS consistently ranks among the best schools of insurance in the nation. The Foundation’s $15 million grant in 2022 allowed the school to expand its physical space and recruit additional faculty and staff. The grant also established new endowments to support students and faculty as they pursue their education in risk science and lead the next generation of scholars.
The grant has four components:
- the Maurice R. Greenberg Honors Scholarship, which enables GSRS to recruit, retain, and support the most promising students in risk management, insurance, or actuarial science;
- the C.V. Starr Opportunity Scholarship, intended for students from other degree programs at GSU who participate in one of the GSRS’s industry-relevant sponsored certificate programs, to increase cross-disciplinary collaboration; and
- the C.V. Starr Industry-Focused Student Enrichment Fund, which helps students host professional events, provide support for faculty advisors, maintain and grow mentorship and membership programs, and attend national conferences; and
- the Maurice R. Greenberg Excellence Fund, which provides resources for faculty and staff to support the GSRS mission, recruiting students and promotion of professional opportunities within the insurance sector for Greenberg Honors Scholarship recipients.
Prior funding endowed the C.V. Starr Chair of International Insurance and the C.V. Starr Scholarship for students studying for careers in the insurance sector.
