Since 1972, The Starr Foundation has contributed $27 million to the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance, and Actuarial Science (GSRM) at St. John’s University, building on the school’s rich history.
Founded in 1901 as the Insurance Society of New York, GSRM today is a leader in risk and insurance education and training, drawing candidates from around the world. In 2018, the Foundation contributed $15 million to the Maurice R. Greenberg Leadership Initiative, which consists of three strategic funds to expand academic programs and enrollment, enhance faculty support, and attract the best and brightest students from around the globe to pursue academic studies and careers in the insurance industry.
The three strategic funds include the following:
- the Maurice R. Greenberg Scholarship Fund, providing full and partial scholarships to GSRM students;
- the Starr Foundation GSRM Faculty Support Endowment for professional development, research, new resources, and enrichment activities for faculty; and
- the Maurice R. Greenberg GSRM Industry Leadership Endowment for programs and resources for GSRM industry outreach activities.
